British artist Graham Gosling has a natural eye for colour and texture, both of which permeate all of his diverse range of artistic output. Having spent over three decades in the airline IT world he transitioned to pursue his passion as a full-time artist in 2023.

 

The intricacies of colour are central to the making of his recent pieces which play on the juxtaposition of the bold and the subtle. Vivid shapes surrounded by a gentle glow, created through raised surfaces and reflection, a testament to his theoretical understanding and technique.

 

His latest range of artworks, the Jewel series, were inspired by the personal tradition of challenging himself to make artworks for his two children at Christmas. His one stipulation each year is that they must be different from anything else he’s made before. In 2025 it was a pair of works that he called ‘Jewels’ for their vibrancy and scale, small but mighty.

 

Each is entirely unique in its shape, colouring and size. Thought out to the finest detail, on the back of each is a stamp from Gosling’s background in martial arts. With a goose to represent ‘Gosling’ and two oak leaves for England and Ireland’s national trees, the emblem is called a ‘Kamon’, effectively a signature family crest.
