LILIA MAZURKEVICH

LILIA MAZURKEVICH

Born in Belarus in 1966, Lilia Mazurkevich studied at Kyiv College of Arts and Design, Ukraine from 1984 to 1987 and later at City & Guilds Art School, London from 1998 to 1999. During her early professional career she worked as an illustrator for national Ukrainian newspapers. This led to many lucrative deals with publishing houses throughout the 1990s and 2000s, creating works of art for the covers and content of internationally distributed novels and research-focused textbooks. This included three major books published by SAGE Publications.

Having held countless sell-out solo exhibitions since then, Lilia is now hailed as one of contemporary art’s elite. Her unique style of hyper-realism and subject matter offer a glimpse into a world of intrigue and imagination, often incorporating an incredibly subtle vein of humour, unrivalled in complexity.

By 2012, Mazurkevich’s astronomical rise in popularity on the commercial art scene saw her works accepted into the Phantasten Museum in Vienna, Austria. She has also been shortlisted at the Royal Academy of Arts’ Summer Exhibition and the BP Portrait Award at The National Portrait GalleryThe Royal College of Art has further chosen to exhibit her works and she has been accepted into the Royal Society of Portrait Painters.
