ARTIST
Matt Rogers studied graphic design at Camberwell, University of the Arts London. Through his extensive knowledge of typography he paints joyful exclamations onto the reverse of glass panels choosing recognisable fonts to portray uplifting phrases.
‘Reverse glass’ painting is a technical process used throughout history from the Byzantine Empire to 19th century clock makers. The paint is applied to the back of a glass panel so that the final image is viewed through the clear glass at the front, working in reverse. In this process, the layers of paint are built up in a very particular order, often painting the finer details first. The light reflected from the surface of the finished work gives glass painting its unique crisp and clear appearance.
